My cousins live in Florida and we live in North Carolina. We met at the most adorable campground in Santee, South Carolina.

It always feels overwhelming to find a good campground without being able to see it first. We tend to love more secluded sites in state parks and this was a lovely surprise.

This family owned campground sits on 55 acres with many trees, in a quiet area in Santee. The owners were a couple and their daughters, who live on the property. There are also camp hosts that a take care of the animals when they need a break, but there was always someone around, if we needed anything.

Everyone was very friendly and always ready to talk about the farm, the animals and answer any other questions we had about their fantastic property.

First, The entire campground property was extremely clean.

Second, the communication from the owners was fantastic and very timely. They responded quickly to a quick question we had when we booked the reservation. We wanted to be sure we were right next to my cousins, in case they had to make changes. They returned my message within ten minutes.

Third, the campground is on a farm. On a farm! They have a highland cow, regular cows, a donkey, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, pheasants and bunnies. The animals and their living areas were clean and the animals were well fed. They were adorable.

Each RV site had electric, water and sewer, as well as a fire pit and a picnic table. The sites down the middle were pull through and the ones on the perimeter were back-in sites. There was also free wifi for the guests. The campground is dog friendly, too.

As far as other amenities on the property, they had just built some lovely bathrooms, which included individual showers and a washer/dryer, if you needed them. If you don’t have an RV, there are tent sites available, too. There is one trailer available to rent, if you wanted to glamp and you don’t own an RV.

The guys left one time to go to the store, but other than that, we chose to stay on site for the entire weekend. There were several trails around the property to walk around during the day. There was a group fire pit with lights and games. The kids and I had a very competitive game of Connect Four next to the garden area and rabbits.

Let’s talk about the animals!

There was a three-week old sheep who had been abandoned by it’s mother. He was all black and they named him Batman. He was bottle fed, since he did not have his mother. Every few hours, you could hear him calling for his bottle. The campground owners, their daughters or the camp hosts would be right there to take care of him. You could sign up to volunteer to feed the animals as well.

Every morning, we were able to pick some fresh eggs from the chickens. We received a full education about chickens, eggs and the roosters. Did you know that roosters were needed to make other chickens, but did not have any part in the egg production? Yes, I know, we sound a bit ridiculous that we did not know this.

We pet two week old bunnies and watched kids bottle feed Batman. There was a sweet little shed with delicious baked treats and local apple butter to purchase. We could also purchase treats to feed the animals.

When we first arrived to see the animals, they were mostly doing their own thing together. The second time we went, the donkey started braying loudly and walked over to us. All of a sudden, the rest of the sheep, goats and chickens came running over to us. We learned later that the donkey was the “manager”. Once he decided we were okay, the rest came over to say hello to us and let us pet them when we would visit.

If I had a rating system, I would give this five stars. I don’t, so I will say this… We will be returning to this campground again. It was lovely and delightful.
